Technology Round-up

These I.C.T. Roundup items were included in issues of B.D.A. Contact magazine indicated by the dates.

 

1. FizzBook. January 2010.

A robust, hand held computer for children. Fizzbook.

 

2. Flip Cameras. May 2010.

Range of small, easy to use video cameras which are ideal for using with children in the classroom etc. Tag Learning.

 

3. Hills Components. May 2011.

Hills Components provide a good range of affordable, but sturdy, headsets (including microphone) with many features to protect them from the daily handling they endure. Prices: £4.10 each or £3.20 for orders of 40 plus. It is advisable to contact Hills for advice on size of headsets prior to ordering as some are more suitable than others for younger children.

 

4. Remtek. May 2012.

The LG Scanner mouse working with MindMapping notes allows users to use the mouse in the ordinary way but also to scan over text and see it turned into a readable item on the screen that could be dropped into MindMapping notes or any text document to be read with TTS. £80.

 

5. Tascam. May 2012.

TascamThere is a very good microphone available for the iPhone made by Tascam and supplied by Canford for £40 (Tascam iM2). This may sound expensive but if you have someone who needs very good quality recordings this can really help make the iPhone into a better recorder and can be used with the built in recorder or other apps.
